What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Through an extensive vocabulary of original exercises, coupled with focused breath patterns, pilates can utilized to enhance professional sports, training, physical rehabilitation, and of course, general fitness.

Joseph Pilates said: “I invented all these machines. Began back in Germany, was there until 1925- used to exercise rheumatic patients. Look, you see it resists your movements in just the right way so those inner muscles really have to work against it. That way you can concentrate on movement. You must always do it slowly and smoothly. Then your whole body is in it.”

Why Pilates?

The specialized equipment originally designed by Joseph Pilates, uses variable spring resistance, pulleys and gravity to facilitate a highly focused and functional movement pattern.

Pilates focuses not only on the strength of specific muscles, but also on specific movement patterns needed for an infinite amount of either everyday tasks or specified sports training. The extensive family of exercises and equipment, along with a comprehensively, competently trained and knowledgeable instructor, gives the Pilates method a vast amount of both health and fitness benefits.

Certified Pilates Instructor

Karina received her mat certification from Power Pilates in 2011 and 2 years later she graduated from the Core Pilates NYC 600 hour Comprehensive Certification program. She continues her education with various classical pilates master trainers.

Starting with a beginner class herself in 2009, she became addicted. It helped her manage her own physical limitations and inspired her to help others. She loves teaching both private and group classes and she is prepared to work with clients of all levels.
